  1. The inspiration for the Front Porch in Mount Ida was born around the turn of the 21st century when a group of musicians, amateur and professional, gathered on the courthouse square one Saturday afternoon to have a jam session.

A banjo player here, a fiddler player there, a timid but talented singer from over yonder-way–it was a mixed bag of talent with one common thread, a love and respect for authentic, homegrown music. What no one expected was the audience that gathered to hear this ever-growing group of talent.

In 2002 the stage became a part of the picture and soon a full-blown concert was being performed every Saturday night, May through October. Then a concession trailer was added to serve refreshments to the crowd at a nominal price.

The Front Porch was a hit with local folks and visiting tourists alike.
On any given Saturday night, one can gaze across the courthouse square and remember what life was like back in the good old days. Grandmas and grandpas tap their toes to familiar and comforting gospel songs. Young’un play tag or chase lightning bugs across the grass. Babies are bedded down on blankets and quilts while Mom and Dad enjoy a wholesome free concert under the stars.

It’s small town America the way we wish it still could be, and still is — if only for a few hours on Saturday night.
Come join us and enjoy the roots of country music in the bluegrass tunes, Southern gospel, and cowboy swing. You are always welcome at the Montgomery County’s Front Porch in Mount Ida, Arkansas.
